SLOPESCAPE
PLASTER CAST MUSEUM
ITHACA, NY
Slopescape, nestled in the steep slope towards Beebe Lake, pulls you off the hill behind and onto an extended landscape. Bold structure acts as a means of stitching and manipulating the conceptually soft ground, drawing out surfaces that bring you into the thick of the site—the drama of seclusion—something that the observatory echoes behind it. Slopescape is a continuous landscape that counteracts the datum of the trees around it, providing a range of relationships between the visitor, the exterior context, and the interior content. The program entails a home for the preservation, restoration, storage, and exhibition of the A.D. White Plaster Cast Collection. The program is likewise stitched throughout the project; the process of restoration is visible to visitors, storage at times melds with exhibition, and educational spaces crossover with research. This project was a collaboration with Shiwoo Yu, B.Arch ‘18.
