LIGAMENT
ROME, ITALY
MIXED USE MARKETPLACE
At a time when our food economy is still unnaturally global and ambitious, Ligament chooses to acknowledge and reveal unnatural elements of the market and highlight better alternative practices. It is a pivotal design, meant to add to the current discourse of the role of the market and food in our contemporary lives. It deconstructs the idea of the market and makes it transparent; cultivation of food is brought to the stage. Transparency is pervasive throughout, in its structure, infrastructure, preparation, and education. This architectural language communicates the simultaneous fragility and strength of our food system and the site itself, and the oncoming flexibility and instability of the global food economy.
